Slow Cooker Butter Chicken

Frugal Slow Cooker Butter Chicken

Frugal slow cooker butter chicken is possible! One look at a jar of Butter Chicken sauce in a grocery store is enough to cancel the meal all together, but there is a way that you can still enjoy this yummy butter chicken meal in a way that is frugal, but still tasty without buying the expensive jar of Butter Chicken Sauce.

I’m talking about making Slow Cooker Butter Chicken yourself. This turns out to cost half of the cost of what you would pay if you bought the jar to add to the chicken afterwards. Also, it is not necessary to use a chicken breast per person. You can easily just use two chicken breasts and it will be enough in this meal for four to five people. This meal can be made frugally and save money! Another idea to boost the volume in the butter chicken is to add some frozen peas that were defrosted in hot water to the slow cooker in the last hour, and let the peas cook with the butter chicken. This boosts the volume and adds to the meal being frugal if you need to feed a bit more people. You could also add cauliflower which would boost the volume some more!

How to Make This a Frugal Butter Chicken Meal

The best way to make this a frugal butter chicken meal, is to take heed to the type of ingredients you are purchasing for the meal.

I find that buying the Superstore no name brand crushed garlic and crushed ginger works out more frugally than buying the fresh ingredients. While there is value in the fresh ingredients, they often go off and have to be thrown out. The crushed garlic for example, can stay in the fridge for long, and lasts a lot longer, cutting out having to buy garlic again because it lay in your veggie basket too long.

With spices, it’s always good to keep the container and rather just buy the refill bags that costs less than buying the spices in their containers. The refill bags often contain more than the spices in the containers.

How to Make This Frugal Slow Cooker Butter Chicken Meal

It really is simple to make this frugal meal. Start with cutting up an onion. I suggest buying a bag of onions which will cost you less than buying just one onion. Saute it in the slow cooker, along with some butter or oil, and add your spices. The spices you need is Masala or any other type of curry. I use medium curry powder, cumin, paprika, and chili powder. Add that to the onions while you still have the slow cooker on the saute function. The last thing you need is the crushed tomato and chicken. It’s super easy and super frugal.
