Ham in the Instant Pot
The normal time for ham to cook on the stovetop is twenty minutes per pound, so for the instant pot, we take a third of that time. I normally like to add one or two minutes extra to make certain that it is done thoroughly.
It is relatively easy to cook ham in the instant pot. All you need is to have is your instant pot, your inner pot and your trivet that comes with the instant pot.
The first thing you are going to do is weigh your ham, and then you are going to put the trivet into the inner pot, making certain that the handles do not obstruct the placement of the ham. Then you are going to place the ham on top of the trivet. The next thing is to add one and a half cups of water to the instant pot. I find that if I add hot water, it builds pressure faster.
Close the lid and switch the vent of the instant pot to “seal”. Then press the “pressure cook” button and set the time to the amount of time you worked out that the ham should be in for the instant pot. Wait for it to seal, when the red indicator pops up. After that is done, you can just wait for the instant pot to cook its time down to zero and either release the steam by switching the vent to the open position, or by letting it release naturally. If you do.decide to open the vent, be careful not to let the steam burn you.
The ham in the instant pot should be done, but if it is not, you can always put it back in for another 5 minutes, and don’t forget to re seal the vent!
It is super easy to cook the ham in the instant pot. The trick with the instant pot is to not be scared, but to just be brave and do it!
