Soft White Sandwich Bread Recipe

Bread has become very expensive and can add up to your grocery spending if you’re not careful. My kids are very picky though and don’t like just any bread. Luckily, I have found this soft white sandwich bread recipe that is amazing. If done right, it can taste like store bought bread.

The soft white sandwich bread is fluffy and gets its texture from the amount of rising that it does before it goes into the oven. The trick is to let it rise in a warm place until it is double its height and in that way, you know that it will be fluffy.

The other thing to know about this bread recipe, is that is super easy to make and even though there is a lot of dough rising involved to get the fluffy texture, it is done with little to no effort on your part. If you don’t have time to mix the dough by hand, then, like me, a solution is to use a bread maker or electric beater. I use the bread maker because it keeps the dough from going cold, especially in the long Canadian winter months. Temperature is definitely a problem and a way to get around the soft white sandwich bread recipe flopping, is to let the bread rise in the oven at a temperature of about 175 degrees with an open oven door. I usually switch off the oven and leave the door slightly ajar. When it has cooled down half way, I close the door. I then will check once or twice if the oven is still warm enough and repeat the process if needed.

Working with yeast in the soft white sandwich bread recipe is tricky and it is essential to make certain that the yeast is fluffy. To do this, I simply use lukewarm water from the tap. This will help the yeast to reach the right temperature. If it’s too hot, it will kill the yeast and if it’s too cold the yeast won’t activate. Make certain that the temperature is just lukewarm.

Ingredients:
– 1 cup lukewarm water
– 2 tbsp yeast
– 1 tbsp sugar
– 3 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour
– 2 tbsp Olive oil
– 1/2 cup water (extra)
– 1 egg
– 1/4 cup milk

Method:
– Add the yeast, sugar and lukewarm water together and let it froth. For the best results, put it somewhere where it will not cool down
– when the yeast has frothed, add the flour, Olive oil and extra water. Mix it well. I let the bread maker do this for me on the pizza dough setting
– when it’s ready, spray cook a bowl, put the dough in and cover it. Let it rise in a warm place to double its size
– when it has risen, beat it down and put it in a pre greased loaf pan. Let that rise again to double its size
– preheat the oven to 375F and glaze the mixture with the egg and milk. Note, this is not a needed step.

– Let it bake for around 20 – 25 minutes until it’s golden brown and sound hollow.

This is the perfect soft white sandwich bread recipe for every situation, yummy to eat and easy to make. In my mind, this one is definitely a winner.
